Yeah! Daylight saving!

September 27th, 2017 11:09

Daylight saving starts on Sunday 1 October – and that means more time in the afternoon and early evening for play and walkies with your pooches!

And while that means they won’t be waking you up so early in the morning with the light peeping between the curtains – if your pooch is a beach baby, at most beaches they’ll need to be on a leash between 10 am and 8 pm.

Check with the local council on times, beach etiquette rules and length of leash allowed.

Some beaches such as O’Sullivan’s Beach (pictured) are leash free 24/7 throughout the year.

As the weather warms up check out Beau’s top 10 tips for a great day on the beach.

  1. Take plenty of fresh water and a travel bowl to keep thirst away – it also helps to stop your dog lapping up sea water
  2. Keep your dog in sight at all times and under effective control so they don’t bother other beach goers.
  3. Keep an eye on what they are doing so they don’t munch on hidden nasties such as rotting fish, fish hooks, broken glass, sharp shells rubbish or someone’s lunch.
  4. Have plenty of doggy poo bags to keep the beach clean for others.
  5. Make sure you wash or gently hose your dog down to get rid of the salt and sand.
  6. Have a towel in the car to rub down your dog before they jump in.
  7. On hotter days make a trip to the beach when it is cooler as sand can get hot hot hot on paws.
  8. Make sure there’s shade if you are going for some time – either under the jetty or take a small beach shelter.
  9. Be sun safe and consider a pet friendly sun screen for their nose and ears.
  10. Pack a ball or Frisbee for keeping them occupied and concentrating on you. Not everyone wants a shaggy, wet bundle of energy running up to them.

Have fun!
