The legacy of Beau lives on at Beau’s

August 16th, 2017 11:57

Who would have thought that a small dog of indeterminate heritage would help spark a movement that has helped so many people with vision loss.

Beau was the first Guide Dog formally trained in Australia and we’re proud to name our Pet Hotel after this fur ball kelpie fox-terrier cross.

By supporting Beau’s Pet Hotel you can help his legacy live on as all profits will help Guide Dogs SA fund our life changing service. That’s pretty pawsome.

Beau was matched with Mrs Elise Mead in 1952 and provided her with 13 years of loving, faithful service as her Guide Dog. From their base in Perth where Guide Dogs started in Australia, they became famous throughout the country, thanks to countless press, radio and television interviews. Beau was a living, breathing example of the safety, mobility and community inclusion a trained Guide Dog can provide.

Since then there have been many other “Beau’s” following in his pawprints - who have changed the lives of people living with disability. Guide Dogs SA has grown and developed and is now #morethandogs offering a range of services to assist people with vision loss, hearing loss as well as children with autism.

Guide Dogs SA relies heavily on the generosity of the community to help fund our services – whether that’s our Guide Dog, Autism Assistance Dog and Pets as Therapy Dogs services, or our white cane and other aids training or upskilling for independent living and walking safely in communities or accessing public transport.

It all leads to enhanced quality of life, independence, self esteem, social interactions, and community participation for some of the most vulnerable people.

By booking your pet into Beau’s Pet Hotel you will not only enable your pet to enjoy the best in pet boarding accommodation you’ll be helping people living with disability reach their goals. And that’s pretty special.

Bookings open now for stays from Monday 28 August 2017.
